The
DME Course aims to equip you with the Knowledge , Skills and
Attitude required to work on ship as a Junior Engineer. The
Course is a tightly structured one, which you will complete
in two years. The syllabus, which is in the form of 15 Competencies
to be mastered, is laid down by the International Maritime
Organisation and ratified and enforced by the Director General
Shipping, Govt. of India.
The Syllabus lays down in great detail the number of hours
of training in each subject and in classrooms, laboratories
and workshops. On completion of the Course you will require
to appear for the Class IV Part A examinations conducted by
the Govt. of India. You will be given adequate training during
the course to help you appear for the exam. |

1.ELIGIBILITY
CRITERIA |

Diploma from an AICTE / DOTE approved Institution. |

1. Diploma in Mech./Marine/Ship Building/Naval
Arch./Electrical.
2. Min 50% in Final year.
3. Min 50% marks in English in either 10th or 12th Std.
4. Age below 22 years as on date of start of course (only 4
years Ship Building Diploma 23 years on date of start of course).
5. Medically fit certified by a Doctor approved by Director
General Shipping.
6. Eye sight ± 2.5
7. No colour blindness. |

Sponsorship by Shipping Company.
2. Family Members / relatives in Shipping.
3. Preferably having completed Higher Secondary (+2).
4. Avg. Marks more than 65%.
5. Extra Curricular activities: NSS / NCC / Sports.
6. Fluency in English. |

2.
ADMISSION |
|
| |
The Institute
is authorized to train 24 Engineers every year under this
stream. The course commencing on 1st September every year.

The admission process commences 3 months before the start
of the course, if your application is shortlisted you will
receive our interview call letter.

3.SELECTION
PROCESS |
|
| |
The
selection process consists of an objective type test covering
Basic Engineering knowledge, an English essay on a current
topic and an interview. Based on this you may be cleared and
sent for a medical exam. The medical results are normally
available the next day and if you clear you will be offered
a seat, which is confirmed on full payment of the tuition
fee. Please note we give offer letters subject to your meeting
a certain minimum standard. Your seat then gets allotted once
you pay the fee. Hence it is advisable to make arrangements
for funds because seats are allotted on a first come, first
served basis and delay in organizing the funds may cost you
your seat. |

4.
TRAINING |
|
| |
The course is
conducted over 2 years with a short break in between after
the first year. The first year consists of Basic Skill Workshop
Training from 0830 - 1230 hrs. The second year consists of
9 months of full day workshop training at the Harbour workshop
and onboard ships. The last 3 months are spent back in the
classes |

5.
DISCIPLINE / ATTENDANCE |
|
| |
The institute
is run on para military lines and strict discipline is enforced.
Disobedience / breach of discipline will be very severely.
100 % attendance is mandatory. Any additional leave taken,
will have to be served on completion of the training. |

6. ACCOMMODATION |
|

The course is
compulsorily residential and the cost of boarding and lodging
is included in the amenities column of the fee structure. |

8. CAREER PROGRESS |
|
| |
On successful
completion of this course, you will be required to appear
for an examination conducted by the Ministry of Transport,
govt. of India, MEO class IV Part A. Our coaching will be
adequate for you appear for this soon after the completion
of the 2 year course. This qualification permits you to sail
as a Junior Engineer on Ship. There are a series of examinations
to be passed for each promotion and a dedicated engineer can
hope to rise to Chief Engineer rank in 8-10 years. For details

9.
JOB OPPORTUNITIES |
|

Most of the
shipping companies have their recruiting offices in Mumbai.
On completion of the course you will require to go to Mumbai
and find a job. CMET will provide all guidance and help but
we do not guarantee jobs. Some shipping companies have been
coming for Campus Selection. However we would like to emphasize
that over 95% of our ex-students are successfully employed
