CIMeT DIPLOMA ENGINEER TRAINING PROGRAMME [DME]:
The DME Course aims to equip you with the knowledge, skills and attitude required to start your career on ship as Marine Engineer at Support Level. the Course is a tightly structured one, which you will complete in two years. The syllabus, which is in the form of Competencies to be mastered, is laid Down by the International Maritime Organization and ratified and enforced by the Director General Shipping, Government of India.
The Syllabus lays down in great detail the number of hours of training in each subject and in Classrooms and workshops. On completion of the Course you will require to appear for the Class IV Part A examinations conducted by the Government of India. You will be given adequate training during the Course to help you appear for the Examination.

MANDATORY:
1.Diploma in Engineering in Mechanical / Marine / Shipbuilding / Naval Architecture / Electrical from an AICTE / DOTE approved Institution.
2.Minimum 50% marks in Final Year Examination.
3.Minimum 50% Marks in English in either 10th or 12th Standard Examination.
4.Age Below 23 Years as on the date of start of the Course [The age limit is 28 Years on the date of the start of the Course for Candidates who have Passed 4 years Shipbuilding Diploma Course]
5.Medically fit certified by Doctor approved by the Director General Shipping.
6.Eye Sight: +/ - 2.5
7.No Colour Blindness.
PREFERENCE CRITERIA:
1.Sponsorship by Shipping Companies.
2. Family Members / Relatives in Shipping.
3.Preferably having completed Higher Secondary [+2]
4.Average marks more than 65%
5.Extra Curricular Marks: NSS / NCC / Sports.
6.Fluency in English.
II.ADMISSION:
The Institute is authorized to train 24 Engineering Diploma Holders every year under this stream, the course commencing 1st September every year. You can apply on line from this site all through the year.
If your application is short listed you will receive our communication for further action.
The Selection Process consists of an Objective type Test covering basic engineering knowledge, an English Essay on a current topic. You will be short listed based on the test and your average marks in the Diploma Course. Shortlisted Candidates will be called the next day for counseling including a Psychometric Test to assess your suitability for a career at sea.
Selected candidates will be sent for Medical Examination.The Medical examination results will be normally available the next day. If you clear your medical, you will be offered a seat, which will be confirmed on payment of full tuition fees.
Please note that we give offer letter subject to your meeting a certain minimum standard. Your seat then gets allotted once you pay the fee. Hence it is advisable to make arrangements for funds because seats are allotted on a first come first served basis and delay organizing the funds may cost you your seat.
OTHER CHARGES:
i) Application Processing Fee: Rs. 1000/- to be paid before taking the entrance test.
ii) Medical Examination Fee: As per the Bill of the Doctor.
IV. TRAINING:
The course is conducted over two years with a short break in between after the first year. The first year consists of Classwork and Basic Skills Workshop. The second year consists of 9 months of full day Workshop training at the Harbour Workshop and onboard ships, The Last three months are spent back in the Classes.
V. DISCIPLINE / ATTENDANCE:
The Institute is run on Para Military lines and strict discipline is enforced. Disobedience / breach of discipline will be dealt with severely. 100% attendance is mandatory. Any additional leave taken will have to be served on completion of the training.
VI. ACCOMMODATION:
The course is compulsorily residential and the cost of boarding and lodging is included in the amenities column of the fee structure.
VII. CAREER PROGRESS:
On successful completion of this Course, you will become eligible to appear for the MEO Class IV Part A examination conducted by the Ministry of Transport, Government of India. Our coaching will be adequate for you appear for this soon after of the completion of the second year course. Passing of this Examination certifies your competence to sail as a Marine Engineer at the Support Level on ship. Progress in the Career to Operational Level and Management Level on the ship is achieved after serving the prescribed time on board ship at sea and obtaining the relevant Certificate of Competency. VIII. JOB OPPORTUNITIES:
Most of the Shipping Companies have their recruiting offices in Mumbai. On completion of the Course, you will require to go to Mumbai and find a job. CIMeT will provide all guidance and help, but we do not guarantee jobs. During the Training you will be assisted to improve your soft skills. Shipping Companies have been coming for Campus selection and employ apt candidates based on vacancies with them. However we would emphasize that over 95% of our trained students are successfully employed in the Shipping Industry.
