What
is Grading of a Maritime Institute ? |
|
| |
Grading
is a process of inspection of the Maritime Training
Institute, by a Specialist Firm, approved by
the Director General of Shipping. Auditors /
Domain Experts from the Grading company do an
in depth study, of the entirety of each course
and assign a number which reflects how well
the Course is being conducted.
Being a completely independent specialist firm,
approved by the Director General of Shipping,
the credibility of the result is very high.

How
is the Grading Process done ? |
|
| |
The
Director General of Shipping has authorised
three companies which specialize in grading
/ rating Institutions (CRISIL, ICRA & CARE).
A common methodology has been discussed and
approved. Institutes who wish to get themselves
graded, apply to any of these companies, who
then inspect them and the courses they conduct.
The Grading is done for each course and not
for the entire Institute. The result of the
Grading is expressed as a number between 1 and
5.
Grade 1 = Excellent, Grade 2 =
Very Good, Grade 3 = Good, Grade 4 = Satisfactory,
Grade 5 = Below Rating Standard. |

How
does this information help a new entrant? |
|
| |
With about
130 Maritime Institutes, both in the Private sector
and the Govt. Sector offering a variety of courses,
new entrants into the field are faced with a bewildering
choice and at a loss as to where to go. Till recently
parents and students had to go by the advertisement,
gut feeling and hearsay. Now they have an independent
rating system to guide them.
1. Identify the Course you wish to do.
2. Check how many Institutions offer the same
3. Check how many have been graded, and what the
course grades are?
4. Select your training destination. |
